The Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway was an 8 mile line built to 2'6" gauge under the design of Everard Calthrop. It ran from Waterhouses to Hulme End along the Hamps and Manifold Valleys in North Staffordshire. It was built with many colonial features uncommon to other U.K. narrow gauge railways (such as standard gauge transporter wagons), and served as a template for the larger Barsi Light Railway in India. The line was a commercial failure, and closed in its entirity in 1935. The line is now a popular cycle path, The Manifold Way.

The model is available in two guises: E.R. Calthrop represents the locomotives in the independent days of operation, carrying a unique lined ochre livery, whilst J.B. Earle is in North Staffordshire Railway Lined Crimson, and has an extended coal bunker. These are one of the largest models Fourdees Limited produce, and as such they should not be operated on curves tighter than 12" radius.
Our 009 scale models feature a highly detailed body that includes many fine separately fitted details, full representation of the cab interior, etch nameplates and flush glazed windows. Also included are NEM pockets which are fitted with PECO GR-102 OO9 couplings. The power is provided by a smooth and reliable Graham Farish 08 chassis, which can be removed for ease of maintenance. This model is intended for curves of radius 12" or more.
