Rapido Sirdar Chassis - Free STL
The first of Rapido Trains stunning 'Narrow Lines' models are starting to hit retailers shelves, and we are hopeful that it won't be waiting too much longer to wait for the Sirdar locos (and of course, the chassis). We have been very lucky to get our hands on production samples of both, and we think that 009 modellers are going to be in for a real treat when they see these wonderful new models on their layouts.
For those keen to scratchbuild their own model for the chassis, or perhaps even make their own kits, we have created a design aid for your computer CAD work. The Outline STL has been approved by Rapido Trains, and features a motion envelope, so that you can check that none of your creations will interfere with the mechanism.
Please bare in mind that this is a design aid, based on the chassis CAD, and so individual models may feature slight differences depending on assembly proceedures and components. If you are 3D printig your parts, you will also need to take into account resin shrinkage and material compression. It will still be important to test your parts on the real thing thoroughly, rather than just assuming it will work based on the STL.
For those who have CAD software that does not import the scale of an STL, the shell should be 56mm long, 24.61mm wide and 18.43mm tall. You can find the file on our website at https://fourdees.co.uk/products/rapido-trains-sirdar-chassis
In a final little update on our first launch kits for this chassis (Sirdar, Darwin, Fowey, Onchan and company), we have just completed some final upgrades to their design and they are now entering production. Our priority will be to ensure sufficient quantities for those who pre-ordered in the first instance, with stock arriving on our website and eBay in the weeks thereafter.
