This is a detailed scale model kit for adult collectors. Not for children under 14 years old.
This model kit is of a 0-4-0 tank locomotive, heavily inspired by Kerr Stuart & Co.'s 'Diana', This 'Large Sirdar Class' of locomotive was built in 1909 to 2'6" gauge to work in Mauritius. One of these machines, 'Diana' did not make it overseas, but was instead re-gauged to 2' and worked the Kerry Tramway, Oakelely Quarry and Pen-yr-Orsedd Quarry in Wales. It is now preserved and in operating order, and can be found hauling tourists on the Amerton Railway in England.
The body is scaled to 1:43.5, with CAD created using original drawings from the Kerr, Stuart & Co. archive. The firebox doors are modelled partially opened, to show off the firebox flicker on the Bachmann mechanism (the small plastic shroud around the bulb needs unclipping/removing). There is also a housing inside the smokebox for placing the speaker unit found in the saddle of the Bachmann model (but this will need fix-wiring to the pcb).
The model includes a choice of bunker fittings (ether a moulded coal load or covers). The gauge glasses are clear resin, and lamps are also included to fit if desired. To produce a full bufferbeam, replacement NEM coupling arms are provided, into which the Bachamnn couplings can be fitted.
This is a beginner's kit, and comprises a single large body shell, with separate cab piece and a selection of detailing components with which to personalise the model. If motorising, the Bachmann Quarry Hunslet chassis requires only minor modification to fit.
