This is a detailed scale model kit for adult collectors. Not for children under 14 years old.
This model kit is inspired by locomotive 'Dolgoch' (Number 2) on the Talyllyn Railway. It is a custom Fletcher, Jennings & Co. 0-4-0WT to 2' 3" gauge. This model represents the locomotive as it arrived at the railway in 1866.
Thanks to Luke Ryan at the Talyllyn Railway, we have managed to piece together what we think is the closest possible representation of "The Old Lady" as it would have appeared when built by Feltcher Jennings in 1866. Between us we have managed to work out the most likely arrangment of fittings, using photographs of the locomotive in it's later years, the well known engraving, and images of similar machines built by this manufacturer from the period.
Notable features of this model include the fully open cab, flap-style smokebox door, early-profile chimney, repositioned whistle and pressure gauge, and Gifford injectors under the cab floor.
This is a beginner's kit, and comprises a single large body shell, with separate cab piece. The Bachmann Trains Rheneas chassis requires no modification to fit, but the body and running frame need removing.
Manufacturing
This is a highly detailed 4mm scale kit built using our in house machines, with High Definition resin and build layers just 50 microns (0.05mm) thick. Whilst there is 'stepping' visible on the parts up close, this is not discernible once the kit is painted and/or from usual viewing distances.
The parts have their main supports removed, though detailing and structural supports will remain to protect the parts in transit, and require removing prior to assembly. Some polishing and filing of the parts is required to provide a smooth finish. Clear (and varnished) resin windows are included, though you may wish to use clear plastic sheet (not included) if preferred.
Assembly
You will need modelling tools (such as a craft knife, cutting board, files and micro-drills) adhesive, paints and ballast material (such as Liquid Gravity) to assemble the kit.
This kit requires a BACHMANN TRAINS Rheneas to motorise the finished model. Consult instructions to see if the chassis needs any modification before fitting.
Hints and Tips
Keep resin parts out of direct sunlight. Detailing and structural supports remain in order to protect the parts in transit, and should be removed before painting.
Parts will benefit from a wash in cool soapy water before painting, but do not leave them to soak. Alternative, Isopropyl alcohol is also a good cleaning solution if parts feel overly sticky.
If any components appear bent or warped, heat them gently with a hairdryer or in warm water (do not soak), and then hold parts whilst they cool.
If modifying the parts in any way (either by cutting, filing, sanding or drilling) be sure to wear appropriate protective clothing such as gloves and masks.
