This is a detailed scale model kit for adult collectors. Not for children under 14 years old.
This model kit is of carriages 113 and 114, two of three 'Carnforth' carriages, built in the early 1990's by Carnforth Railway Restoration and Engineering Services. These modern vehicles are of aluminium construction, with wide easy-access doors at each end, and run on distinction 'chevron' bogies.
113 was originally a Third Saloon with two First Class Compartments. In the late-2010's this vehicle was converted to a Third Saloon with toilet and guards compartment.
114 is a Third Saloon Buffet Car, and has remained in substantially the same condition since construction. All three Carnforths were built with gas powered heating, that has since been removed and additional seating added.
There is also a raft of detailing brake and electrical connections specific to these vehicles. The gangway fallplates can positioned either up or down, with the latter requiring the use of the provided 'Gangway Couplings'.
Manufacturing
This is a highly detailed 4mm scale kit built using our in house machines, with High Definition resin and build layers just 50 microns (0.05mm) thick. Whilst there is 'stepping' visible on the parts up close, this is not discernible once the kit is painted and/or from usual viewing distances.
The parts have their main supports removed, though detailing and structural supports will remain to protect the parts in transit, and require removing prior to assembly. Some polishing and filing of the parts is required to provide a smooth finish.
Detailed resin bogies and PECO plastic wheelsets are included with the model. The bogies include NEM pockets with which accept the included resin OO9 couplings. For glazed vehicles, a clear perspex sheet is provided that can be cut to size before fitting.
Assembly
You will need modelling tools (such as a craft knife, cutting board, files and micro-drills), adhesive and paints to assemble and finish the kit.
Hints and Tips
Keep resin parts out of direct sunlight. Detailing and structural supports remain in order to protect the parts in transit, and should be removed before painting.
Parts will benefit from a wash in cool soapy water before painting, but do not leave them to soak. Alternative, Isopropyl alcohol is also a good cleaning solution if parts feel overly sticky.
If any components appear bent or warped, heat them gently with a hairdryer or in warm water (do not soak), and then hold parts whilst they cool.
If modifying the parts in any way (either by cutting, filing, sanding or drilling) be sure to wear appropriate protective clothing such as gloves and masks.
