Rapido Trains UK Cranmore Chassis

We are delighted to announce that we have collaborated with Rapido Trains UK in order to make their second OO9 chassis from the 'Cranmore' model available separately.

These mechanisms feature a 6-pin DCC decoder socket, museum quality paint finish and a smooth & powerful mechanism with flywheel. NEM coupler pockets with short and long couplings included.

Price £74.95, but for a pre-order deposit of £1 you can purchase for £66.45 at launch. Anticipated delivery Summer 2027.

Sirdar or Cranmore Chassis?

The core mechanism in the new Cranmore chassis is identical to that in the Sirdar chassis. All our previously anounced kits for the Sirdar chassis will be configured so that they also fit the Cranmore chassis.

The principle difference between the two mechanisms is that the Sirdar chassis has a cylinder with valve-chests positioned above, and a single Slidebar, whilst the Cranmore has a cylinder with valve chests inside and double slide-bars.

If you missed out on pre-ordering the Sirdar chassis, we will be carrying stock of these later in the year.

Launch Concepts

To help showcase what can be done with the Cranmore chassis, we have developed six models of various styles.

These models have been designed so that they will also fit the Sirdar Chassis. For some kits, one chassis is more 'authentic' to the prototype, but on a model railway, Rule 1 applies!

There is no need to wait to pre-order these kits, as we will likely make these available before the Cranmore chassis arrive in stock.

Sir John Grice

The sole surviving Cranmore Class locomotive 'Sir John Grice' is a slightly larger variant of the machine, built to 2'6" gauge. Featuring a wider frame, cab and shallower angle to the smokebox.

Mercia

In thanks to Rapido for providing the chassis to the 009 community, we've narrow-gauged their Peckett & Sons locomotive 'Marcia' to make this cute little engine (including it's much-loved bunker!).

Don

This inverted-saddle-tank is inspired by similar machines for which W.G. Bagnall became known. Designed for their greater stability over rough track compared to the traditional saddle-tank.

Caledonia

This 0-4-0ST is inspired by similar machines built by Andrew Barclay to both narrow and standard gauge, and features the 'squared profile' saddle-tank found on their locomotives.

Irvine

This ogee tank is inspired by similar machines built by Andrew Barclay. One such locomotive 'Chevalier' was to be found on the Campbeltown and Machrihanish Light Railway, Scotland.

Milton

And now for something completely different... a narrow-gauge Fireless locomotive, inspired by similar machines built by Andrew Barclay. One such machine worked the Bowaters Paper Railway.

The Cranmore Chassis will also fit these models...
